Umtanum Creek

We wandered over to the other side of the mountains today… the Yakima River area, specifically along Umtanum Creek.

The climate on the East side of the Cascades is very different than on the West, more arid, much warmer, and not the towering trees or lush green of the ferns and moss, but still spectacular in it’s own way.

We started out from the Umtanum Creek Recreation Area, crossing over the Yakima River before following the creek upstream. Along the way we saw a beaver dam, had to cross the creek a few times, and had another fun day hiking with the Mountain View Hikers.
