Rock Candy Trail – Capitol State Forest
Capitol State Forest is a working forest and outdoor recreational area just outside Olympia… and someplace I have been many times because it has a lot of different trails and because it is so close and easy to get to. From May through November, most of the trails on the north side are open to motorized vehicles… so being it’s January, I decided to check out one of the trailheads with a few folks without having to worry about being run over.
We got lucky, in that the rain stopped pretty much as we were pulling in to the parking area, but the winds were wicked.. 20+ MPH with gusts pushing 30. Original plan was for a quick day-hike of about 8 miles as we had dinner plans. We ended up cutting it short because of the wind, and with being so overcast there wouldn’t have been any sort of decent view from Candy Rock Mountain’s peak. So we stuck to the loop trail.. and… well.. watch the video above, or check out the photos below.
