Reduce Your Blood Pressure With Blueberries
Blueberries have long been touted as a superfood because they’re loaded with antioxidants, phytonutrients, low in calories, and high in water and fiber to help control blood sugar and keep you full longer. Now they can add one more notch to their superpowers belt.
According to Medical News TODAY, there is some new research by the University of East Anglia (UEA) and Harvard University soon to be published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, that says the bioactive compounds in blueberries called anthocyanins (a type of flavonoid) offer protection against hypertension.
The study involved following more than 180,000 participants over a 14 year period and found
Compared with those who do not eat blueberries, those eating at least one serving a week reduce their risk of developing the condition by 10 per cent.
Strawberries also got good marks for their high levels of anthocyanins as well.
