Denver or Bust Road Trip - Day 1
We are heading to Denver for the Obesity Action Coalition’s annual Your Weight Matters convention, this year in Denver. We decided to road trip it, seeing the sights along the way. We left late Thursday, drove, then slept, then drove some more before stopping at Bruneau Dune State Park in Idaho.. home of the largest, stable, single structure dune in North America.
The larger of the two main dunes is about 470 feet, and kept stable because of prevailing winds that come in from two, nearly opposite directions. They also have a small observatory with a 25-inch Newtonian Reflector telescope.
Once we got settled in our camp site, we did a short hike.. then dinner at camp before checking out the program at the observatory. It was some of hottest weather I’ve hiked in for quite awhile, but checking out the dune and the area around it was well worth it.
